Consider your message.

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

I just read on Twitter about someone receiving a whole lot of paper literature in the post from their local council… explaining the importance of recycling! The best bit was that the literature included a voucher which expired 3 months ago!

Again, it’s a minefield when you’re in the realms of environmental issues, but you really need to consider the whole message you’re sending out, not just the printed one. How about a single Buy Cipro Online postcard directing people to a micro-site? Get your key points across and those who are bothered can learn more. Or maybe a “green” gift ? More expensive that paper no doubt, but there were apparently quite a few brochures and booklets in the pack, all which need to be professionally designed and printed.

Come on councils, a bit of imagination please!

The importance of suitable PR

Monday, September 27th, 2010

I read a very interesting article in the Telegraph today, about Bono (of U2 fame) and his anti-poverty foundation ONE.

The piece said how despite receiving almost $9.6 million in donations during 2008, they apparently only passed 1.2% of this to good causes, and used over $5 million for salaries.

The part that interested me the most however, was how they recently arranged a big PR drive for their campaign to gain funding from the Government. New York press rooms were apparently bestowed rather extravagant press packs – including a $15 bag of Starbucks Coffee, a $15 moleskin leather notebook, and a $20 water bottle.

Now, it is possible, and no one’s mentioned it, that the contents of the packs (which were delivered by courier) were donated. But either way the view is that this was a pretty OTT campaign, considering the cause of the organisation.

A spokesperson for ONE said that they felt the packs were necessary to get noticed, buy antibiotics so they seem happy with the decision and there isn’t an agency somewhere being dismissed, but whoever gave the plan the go ahead should next time really consider the entire message their PR is sending out – not just the literal message printed on the release..

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

It’s always exciting to discover fab coverage for yourself – and I did that whilst reading the 11th – 17th September edition of Closer antibiotics online just now.

Their Beauty Insider feature ran a Tried and Tested piece on Face Oils, and kicked off with Bio-Oil. They found it great for evening out skin tone and leaving their complexion feeling fresher.

If you’re running a beauty story and would like information on Bio-Oil, please contact variations pr on 0207 351 3131.
